American watch brand Tockr has announced a new limited watch The Wheel of Time.

With their luminous, serpentine dials, the new unisex Tockr “The Wheel of Time” models (ref. WOT1.1) channel the mystery and magic of the fantastic new series from Prime Video and Sony Pictures Television, available to stream now at Premium Video.

For centuries, the circular pattern of the ouroboros serpent has signified the powerful and eternal nature of time, alchemy, and rebirth. In the universe of “The Wheel of Time”, this “Great Serpent” is also the favorite icon of the revered and vilified Aes Sedai, those seemingly immortal bearers of The One Power.

Tockr chose a large snake as the focal point of The Wheel of Time brand’s first watch collaboration. During the day, a glowing serpentine creature emerges from the depths of each dark black dial, illuminated with a burst of brilliant white, grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova.

At night, the largest snake appears in a mystical and brilliant blue reminiscent of the ajah chosen by Moiraine.

A 42mm stainless steel case frames this otherworldly vision, with the larger serpent ringing the stainless steel bezel, repeating itself in an increasingly smaller concentric pattern that reinforces the concept of eternity and the cyclical nature of time. Ultimately, the eye is drawn to the center of the dial where silver hour, minute and second hands are anchored alongside the Tockr logo. The watch is powered by a high quality Swiss quartz movement.

The solid caseback bears a richly detailed engraving of the “The Wheel of Time” logo and a unique engraving of the serial number. A textured black silicone strap subtly mimics the scales of the snake and adds a dramatic finishing touch, with a stainless steel pin buckle engraved with the Tockr logo. Each wristwatch will be delivered in a personalized “La Roue du Temps” leather pouch.

The Wheel of Time watch sells for US $ 449 and is sure to become a highly coveted collector’s item. The watches are available for pre-order exclusively on Tockr.com, shipped worldwide, with delivery in early 2022.

Steve Forshaw, Owner of Prime Time Watch Repairs

“I’ve always been one of those kids who loved to take things apart and really see how they worked,” says owner and founder of Prime Time Watch Repairs in Mawdesley. “Watches have always intrigued me and the more I became interested in them, the more I was also interested in their mechanical side.

Fortunately for Steve, a path to the decidedly more professional side of watch repair has always been open and visible: his father Mike himself worked for a watch repair company before starting his own watch repair business with branches in Southport and Liverpool a few decades ago. .

And it was in his father’s businesses that Steve first had the opportunity to familiarize himself with the practicalities of the job, taking apart watches in his early twenties and learning how to perform the technical aspects of the work. repair without damaging a part.

Steve’s workbench

Always a perfectionist, he has also embarked on a series of courses with the British Horological Institute to hone and truly hone his skills to the highest standards in the industry. As the saying goes, Steve really wanted to know what made watches run. He hasn’t looked back since.

“A lot of the job is solving problems – when you take a watch apart, you have to find the problem and every watch design is different,” says Steve. “You really have it twice on the same day because each watch is a new challenge, so you are constantly being tested. You have to be really patient in this job.

“I think my dad gave me my car and I think it was always almost a possibility that I ended up going and trying to start my own business like he did,” says Steve. “After 20 years of experience, I wanted to do my own thing.

“I’ve been there and it’s been a bit of a whirlwind,” adds Steve, who opened Prime Time Watch Repairs at Cedar Farm in West Lancashire in May of this year. “When the unit became available, it seemed perfect to me: attendance is good but it’s in the countryside and so far everything has gone well, which gave me a real boost of confidence .

A Prime Time repair in progress

“It was certainly a big risk to start the business with Covid, but luckily my wife is very understanding and she knows how motivated I am! “

Having gained a reputation for his outstanding work over the years, Steve’s business has also been strengthened by the constant work of jewelers who trust his steady hand and expertise, which he says has really helped. “Working for yourself in a quiet room means you tend to do a lot more work too! ” he says. “It was a good time to take the plunge and start my own business.

“The best part is when you can return a watch to a customer and their face lights up,” says 35-year-old Steve. I had it restored for her for free because it had such strong sentimental value and she almost cried.

“It’s the kind of high and satisfaction you can get from the job.

“The reaction from the locals that I have had so far has been very pleasant,” adds Steve, born in Ormskirk, himself accredited by the British Horological Institute and recently appointed to the IHB Board of Directors and appointed member. “I’ve even seen people come from as far away as South Wales for a date just by word of mouth which is just overwhelming.

“And to see Cedar Farm come alive again is lovely; it’s such a nice place to work.

As for long-term goals, Steve hopes to grow the business, get into the retail industry, and hire a few staff. But, for now, he’s more than happy with how well everything is going at Prime Time Watch Repairs.

“I really like the job,” he says. “I don’t feel like I’m working sometimes because of the absolute pleasure. “

The clip, since its publication about four hours ago, has racked up more than 2,800 upvotes and is counting. He also received tons of comments. A few tried to imagine what cats might think.

“You can see the little gears spinning in their heads, ‘What are you? “One Reddit user joked. “Can he give us treats?” Shared another. “The council will now decide the fate of the bald kitten,” shared a third.

The end of a season many wish they could forget comes Saturday as the Florida Gators host the Florida State Seminoles in the 65th addition to their rivalry. With both teams at 5-6 seeking bowl eligibility while hoping to avoid losing seasons (UF’s first since 2017, FSU’s fourth in a row), there’s extra juice to a game that doesn’t. would not have much to do otherwise.

The Gators are losers four in a row and six of the last eight against the FBS competition. The Seminoles, meanwhile, have won five of their last tied games after starting the season 0-4. In other words, the state’s rivals are heading in completely different directions as they enter the regular season finale.

The unknown status of Redshirt junior quarterback Emory Jones, who has started 10 of 11 games this season but suffered an ankle injury in training this week, adds to Florida’s complexity. Jones first had to miss the game before he was allowed to dress. Despite this – and reports that red-shirted freshman QB Anthony Richardson would be making his second career debut after himself facing a series of random injuries throughout the season – Jones was announced as a starter via the sound system before the game.

With Dan Mullen’s firing last week, special teams coordinator and running backs coach Greg Knox is taking over as interim UF coach. Although Knox is another beleaguered assistant for the Gators, he is highly regarded by players and experienced in an interim role, winning a bowl game with Mississippi State after Mullen left for Florida after the 2017 season.

With recruiting still in dire straits and plenty of questions surrounding the schedule – including who the Gators will hire as their next coach – Florida could certainly use a big win there to end the season on a high note, adding a dozen or so. ‘bowl practices on their schedule and set the stage for a possible turnaround this summer. It may seem unlikely to some, but anything can happen in a game of rivalry.

What will happen on Saturday when Florida hosts the state of Florida? Let’s find out.

Play Notes

Florida is 36-26-2 over Florida State with a 21-12-1 record at The Swamp. The Gators have won back-to-back games averaging 25 points.
UF and FSU did not play last season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing the SEC to a conference-only schedule. It was the first time that the rivals did not face each other on the grill since his debut in 1958. Thus, consecutive games are played at the same location (Gainesville) for the first time since the first six games of the series (1958 -63).
Since the start of the 2018 season, Florida are 24-6 when they score first, 27-3 when leading at halftime, 30-3 when leading after the third quarter, 23-1 when she allows 20 points or less and 26-2 when she gets ahead of her opponents. The negative ratings in those last two stats have come this season to Kentucky (both) and Alabama, respectively.
UF is 7-12 when overtaken by an opponent and 6-8 in games decided by 10 points or less since 2018.
Florida is 6-10 against ranked opponents (2-4 against top five teams, 4-7 against top 10 teams) and 26-7 against unranked teams since 2018. It’s also a record. 13-1 record against non-conference opponents.
The Gators have scored over 24 points in 33 of their last 40 games. However, they haven’t scored 24 points against an FBS opponent since October 16.
Florida is one of two FBS teams at the national level (Alabama) that have yet to lose to an opponent who finished the season with a record loss since 2004.
UF has scored in 421 straight games, an NCAA record.

Prediction and analysis

Disseminate: Florida -2 | WHERE : 59

There’s no reason to believe the Gators are going to win this game. Not only is the team on a massive downtrend, but they’ve lost their head coach, defensive coordinator and a veteran assistant to layoffs before kick-off. On top of that, Richardson appears to be starting his second career game despite not playing much this season. The Seminoles, meanwhile, have been on a tremendous comeback lately with wins in five of their last seven games.

And yet, in a season of utter unpredictability, given that I’m literally forced to make predictions in this space, there’s just something inside that tells me Florida is going to win this game. It may be a long story of college football teams rallying behind interim coaches. Perhaps it’s a belief that this senior class sees this as a last chance to end their college career on a high note. It could also just be the idea of a rivalry game in The Swamp that makes me lean towards the Gators. Florida is better than it looks, and Florida State has had some luck against a few weak opponents here. By gritting my teeth, I side with UF at this point and expect the total to drop below.

Records 2021: ATS chooses 3-8 | O / U select 4-6-1

Tips

Uniforms: Florida will wear blue jerseys, blue pants and orange helmets. (This is my favorite uniform suit.)

Seniors day: There will be 27 Gators honored before kickoff as Seniors Day is celebrated in the swamp. Among them are 18 scholarship players, many of whom have made significant contributions to Florida football during their four or five years with the program.

Look for the following names as they are honored Saturday on Florida Field: Brandon Becar, Lacedrick Brunson, Amari Burney, Zachary Carter, Jace Christmann, Coleman Crozier, Malik Davis, Trey Dean III, Jean Delance, Chase DeMichele, Kemore Gamble, Chris Howard, Dylan Meeks, Ventrell Miller, Jeremiah Moon, Patrick Moorer, Daquan Newkirk, Dameon Pierce, Jordan Pouncey, Stewart Reese, Isaac Ricks, Randy Russell, Nicolas Sutton, Tyrone Truesdell, Joshua Tse, Antonio Valentino, Rick Wells

The Florida Gators are back on the road after a brief weeklong hiatus at home, and they enter a game that could have significant implications beyond the final score. With the Gators 1-4 away this season and having struggled tremendously the last time they were on the road, the Missouri Tigers present an opportunity for a real upright game as they are ranked near the bottom. FBS on both sides of the bale.

If Florida head coach Dan Mullen is hoping to keep his job after his harness has been set on fire in the past two weeks, it starts with beating Missouri – perhaps hands down – and building that momentum in the last game of the regular season. Saturday is also an opportunity for the Gators to lock down bowl eligibility for the fourth consecutive season and avoid the same fate suffered the last time UF performed so poorly in 2017.

With recruiting still in dire straits and plenty of questions surrounding Mullen, especially after the unfortunate first half against Samford last week, Florida need a big win and end of season to try to turn things around. . Either way, anything seems possible for the Gators due to how talented the team is despite the past two weeks.

What will happen on Saturday when Florida visits Missouri? Let’s find out.

Florida and Missouri are all-time 5-5, although the Gators have a 5-4 series advantage since the Tigers joined the SEC.
Under Mullen, Florida are 24-5 when they score first, 27-3 when leading at halftime, 30-2 when leading after the third quarter, 23-1 when she allows 20 points or less and 26-2 when she overtakes her opponents. The negative ratings in those last two stats have come this season in Kentucky (both) and Alabama, respectively.

Florida is 6-10 against ranked opponents (2-4 against top five teams, 4-7 against top 10 teams) and 26-6 against unranked teams under Mullen. It’s also 13-1 against non-conference opponents.
The Gators have scored over 24 points in 33 of their last 39 games.
Florida’s 492.4 yards per game rank sixth among FBS teams.
UF is 10th nationally with 227.6 rushing yards per game. His 2,276 rushing yards in 10 games are the most important since 2009 and the second since 1990. The Gators are also the first in the country, averaging 6.0 yards per carry.
Florida are one of two FBS teams at the national level (Alabama) that have not lost to an opponent who has finished the season with a record loss since 2004.
UF has scored in 420 consecutive games, an NCAA record.

Prediction and analysis

Broadcast: Florida -9 | WHERE : 69

There is simply no way that this spread makes sense, leading to fears that bettors will know something we don’t know. It would be one thing if the Gators were favored like this at home given the advantage of playing in The Swamp, but Florida are 2-5 ATS as a favorite against FBS opponents this season, 0-5 ATS in the away games and 1-4 directly in those non-home games.

Florida are statistically much better in attack than in defense compared to Missouri, but it’s still a Gators team that put in pathetic defensive efforts in back-to-back games and were rightfully on the ropes after dropping a program record. 42 points in the first half. to an FCS team. Florida absolutely turned it around defensively in the second half last week, and that’s commendable, but who knows how it’s going to turn out in a road game like this.

As I have said in recent weeks, betting on this Gators team is not recommended as Florida is completely unpredictable week after week. There is a chance he will win this game easily. There is also a possibility that he will lose outright. Missouri beat South Carolina 31-28, a team to which UF lost 40-17 the week before. However, the Tigers’ only wins this season are against SC, Vanderbilt, North Texas and Central Michigan. Either way, it would be a shock to see the Gators defense stop the Tigers completely, so the ending is a lean with Missouri getting points, but don’t take any of those to the bank.

Records 2021: ATS chooses 2-8 | O / U select 4-5-1

Tips

Florida will wear traditional white jerseys, blue pants and orange helmets.

This is our preview of IRONMAN South Africa 2021 – you can read our reports to find out how Maurice Clavel won for the PRO men and Ruth Astle won the PRO Women race.

Having already previewed the IRONMAN Cozumel in Mexico, we now turn our attention to another professional long distance M-Dot umbrella race this Sunday – IRONMAN South Africa 2021.

With a bigger stock market and live coverage, here’s our take on what to expect from the action in Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Start time and how to watch live

Kudos to the IRONMAN broadcast team, who provided almost weekly coverage of races across the world in the second half of the 2021 season,

The IRONMAN Africa Championship this weekend will receive full streaming coverage.

The PRO race will start at 6:20 am local time on Sunday, November 21. It’s 0420 UK time / 0520 CET / 2320 Eastern (Saturday).

Remote events are always slightly more complex when it comes to streaming, as FB’s restrictions on video length mean that the broadcast is always in two parts, sometimes resulting in a frustrating transfer down the middle.

For your convenience, we’ve integrated the videos into this article so you can watch the race without leaving TRI247:

Part 1

IRONMAN 2021 African Championship professional race, part 1

*** UPDATE: Due to the weather in the area, our start time has changed. Professional men start at 6:25 am and professional women start at 6:30 am local time for a shortened swim of 1.9 km. Tune in for the last Facebook Watch race of the year as a strong field fighter for the IRONMAN 2021 Africa Championship in spectacular Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.

posted by IRONMAN now Wednesday, November 17, 2021

Part 2

Whether on Facebook, via your Smart TV – or directly on this page – you will be able to watch the race live wherever you are and whatever device you choose.

As always, the IRONMAN Tracker app on mobile devices is your go-to add-on if you want to view real-time race data alongside live streaming and commentary.

PRO Men

Home favorite and 2018 champion Kyle Buckingham will wear # 1 this weekend. Born in Port Elizabeth, Buckingham will be 38 next week – a win here would truly be a birthday present to remember. Given the opposition, this will be a difficult challenge.

The name of the title in terms of recognition and popularity should be Sebastien kienle. The German won Kona in 2014, IRONMAN 70.3 world champions in 2012 and 2013, and won the Roth Challenge and IRONMAN European Championship three times in a truly stellar career. He’s been there and got the T-shirt in every way.

Kienle recently started a two-year countdown to his retirement at the end of 2023, but you have to think he wouldn’t be making this trip if he couldn’t perform strongly, in what has been far from it. his most successful year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that his Achilles treat him well, because an interview at Kienle’s finish line is never to be missed!

Like Buckingham, another athlete who has already succeeded is Nils Frommhold (GER). Winner in 2014, he also finished second in 2017 and 2019 and therefore clearly at ease in the Eastern Cape province. Frommhold also took second behind an impressive Patrick Lange this year ar Challenge Roth. This form, combined with the positive vibes from previous visits, could make him a contender for the podium.

Nils Frommhold on his way to a 4:09:30 split time (and a race win) at Challenge Roth

In the form of confirmed veterans, we will end by highlighting two young people.

The first one standing, Rasmus Svenningsson (SWE), who in 14th place is the highest ranked athlete according to the PTO rankings. At 28, he has already won the IRONMAN Lake Placid and finished second at the IRONMAN Austria this year. He had to run in Sacramento before the weather had any other ideas, so it looks like his plans have changed.

Make Rasmus look old in comparison (!) Was born in Britain Sam laidlow (FRA) – 100% a name you will follow for the next decade or more. At just 22, he clocked an 8:05 iron distance time at 20 (IM Barcelona), a few months after winning the Lakesman Triathlon in the UK. He also had a memorable battle at IRONMAN UK this year with Joe Skipper.

Expect him to lead the race from the start as he is a very good swimmer and is more than happy to run forward on the bike as well.

PRO Women

In truth, a surprisingly small start list for women that includes 11 athletes – and that’s if everyone arrives.

I don’t ‘know’, but I’m going to assume that what will be just two weeks after 15km of walking / running at IRONMAN Florida, Imogen Simmonds (SUI) is probably unlikely to come straight back into another long distance race and take his place on the start list.

An athlete who is – and fresh off her greatest career success to date – is Ruth astle. After a big win at the IRONMAN Mallorca, the Briton says she has rebounded well and is still motivated to run, so she will start again on Sunday after a relatively late entry.

Having done this race myself a few times before, the roads and road surfaces will definitely have a British feel – none of those super smooth surfaces you will find elsewhere for sure! A small peloton would suggest that we will see few groups in the women’s race, and that would likely work well for Ruth, who put her cycling strength to good use in Mallorca.

Astle has run frequently, and always well too, throughout her career in her age group so I’m pretty confident that five weeks between events will work out well for her. British women have a long history of success in this race – could she even join Bella Bayliss, Chrissie Wellington, Jodie Cunnama and Lucy Charles-Barclay in claiming victory? It is certainly possible – and the confidence of one great victory can only help move you forward to another.

Ruth Astle Outlaw Demi Holkham 2021

Ruth is currently 33rd in the PTO rankings, and significant competition will likely come from 26th, Manon Genet (FRA). The French athlete finished second in the Challenge Almere, the long distance triathlon world championships, finishing with a marathon of 2.58 hours. The Briton would certainly like to start the run a few minutes ahead of Manon …

Manon Genet / Pontevedra 2019 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships

You can click here to find the complete start list.

Prize money: what’s at stake?

With IRONMAN regional championship status, Sunday’s races will provide a total purse of $ 100,000. This means a better attractive check of $ 15,000 for the race winners, with the remainder of the pot going to the top 10.

There are also four qualifying spots (two for men, two for women) up for grabs for the 2022 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. This will take place on October 6 (Women) and 8 (Men) of next year.

Since her victory at the IRONMAN Mallorca last month, Kona’s qualification is already assured for Astle, so she will run for free. No such freedoms for all those who have October 2022 in mind.

  1. $ 15,000
  2. $ 9,000
  3. $ 7,000
  4. $ 5,000
  5. $ 4000
  6. $ 3,000
  7. $ 2,500
  8. $ 2,000
  9. $ 1,500
  10. $ 1,000

We’ve said this regularly, but it’s always worth remembering (!) – there is one secondary prize source that athletes run for – the Power take-off “Race for classifications” which will see a total of $ 2,000,000 paid to the top 100 athletes, men and women, at the end of the 2021 season.

It is entirely possible with a strong performance for an athlete to move their PTO ranking sufficiently, meaning that their improved payout could more than exceed the prize check paid on Sunday. So, there is much more than that simple $ 100,000 handbag to consider.

Since switching from my Pebble to the Apple Watch, it’s the one thing I never leave home without. Yes, I often go out without my smartphone, but never without the Apple Watch. It has become an integral part of my personality and the connected life I lead. But more importantly, it’s the only ally I need in my fight against diabetes.

I’ve been using the Apple Watch Series 7 for a few weeks now and here’s what I thought of the latest version of the Cupertino smartwatch.

Apple Watch Series 7 review

As soon as you take the Apple Watch Series 7 out of the box, the design change hits you. The design itself is the same, but the watch face looks almost gigantic compared to the previous version. In addition, the glass curves on the sides and folds back into the aluminum casing almost seamlessly. The new Apple Watch tries to use that space a bit with some of the watch faces.

With sports buckle, the bigger watch looks different when you workout or run on the beach. Additionally, I got the impression that so much glass also makes this one a bit more vulnerable to damage, especially when your writing hits hard metal like on a door. Fortunately, Apple uses a front crystal which it claims is better than before. Nevertheless, be careful when using this Apple Watch or get one of these screen protectors.

The extra screen size has its benefits as well, especially a full QWERTY keyboard for those who like to type a full response to a message using the watch. This is handy for those who have had difficulty with voice responses or gestures before. I’m just not that type, no pun intended. In addition, all notifications can now be easily viewed on a single screen and alerts with pictures make a lot more sense.

I am not a swimmer. But now, working from home in Kerala, I had the opportunity to wear the Series 7 to the pool and was more than happy with how it performed. In fact, I also used the touchscreen when the watch face was wet. Even when not in a swimming pool, the WR50 water resistance means the Apple Watch is highly relevant to users in places like Kerala, which is humid for most of the year.

The use of the watch as such hasn’t changed much with the Series 7 as Apple hasn’t released a lot of new features this time around. However, it is still the most charged smartwatch. Everything I need for my daily quantified existence is always there, from steps and calorie counts to workouts and playing music. There is also a measurement of ECG and oxygen in the blood, while women can also monitor their menstrual cycles.

Now the Apple Watch shows more fitness goal trends so you know how you are doing over a period of time. In workouts, it’s hard to think of a diet that isn’t included in the watch. There is fall detection for cycling, but it will be an upgrade later in the year.

However, there are a few new software features that are useful. The Mindfulness app now goes beyond breathing. I have used Reflect mode to de-stress after long days when all you do is switch between Zoom calls.

There’s also the Find Devices and Find Items app now on the watch, which is great for those who have a lot of Apple devices and need help finding where they are. I was able to use the Find Items app to locate my bag that I had thrown away somewhere in the house after a tiring flight with red eyes using the play sound feature.

Battery life still lasts all day, but I feel like it’s a bit stressed compared to the 6 series. It could be because I was out of Wi-Fi range. during most of the testing period and the watch used more of the battery to find a network or stay connected to the phone, which was also having network issues at the time. But with Apple now getting around 18 hours of battery life on a full charge, that’s still no compromise.

Overall, the Apple Watch Series 7 offers better usability thanks to the larger screen size, but doesn’t offer a compelling reason for those in the Series 5 or 6 to upgrade. For those who used the previous modes, the Series 7 will impress you in several ways.

The United States Women’s National Team will face South Korea on Tuesday at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota. The two teams played a scoreless draw Thursday in Kansas City, and the game is the final game of the two-game series between the teams. Tuesday’s game is also a farewell match for longtime USWNT player Carli Lloyd.

The 17-year-old veteran is retiring from the game after announcing her retirement in August. Lloyd is currently the second most capped player in world football history with 315 games played and has scored 134 international goals, the third in USWNT history and the fourth all-time in the sport. She will play her last game against the USWNT on Tuesday before ending her NWSL regular season playing career with NJ / NY Gotham FC.

Here’s how to watch the game and what to know:

Scenarios

USWNT: While the team is likely to see Carli Lloyd in the lineup in their last game, there are questions about how they will line up otherwise. The team struggled to beat South Korea and didn’t have the extra assist in the final third last week. The Americans were tested on the flanks as Kelley O’Hara and Casey Krueger were tasked with away starts. While there are unlikely to be any drastic changes in the last post-Olympic exhibition game and what is billed as a celebration game, there will be eyes on the American attack and its finish.

South Korea: The South Korean team ended a 22-game home streak for the USWNT in their previous meeting and will look to play spoilers on what is supposed to be a night of celebration. The team will likely be looking for another solid midfield performance from team captain Soyun Ji, and another big game from goalie Younggeul Yoon. Yoon faced 19 USWNT shots in the goalless draw on Thursday.

Prediction USWNT vs South Korea

Another close match between the two teams, after the familiarity of the first match, but this time with goals To take: USWNT 2, South Korea 1.

“I was 23 when I first contacted him to make this film,” filmmaker Robert Weide said in the trailer for his IFC Films documentary. Kurt Vonnegut: Taken off in time.

“I became obsessed. What high school student isn’t going to gobble this up? Weide continues, holding a copy of the author’s black comic novel Breakfast of champions, “He thinks what I think of the world.”

Thirty-nine years ago, Weide contacted his literary idol with a documentary on the life and work of Vonnegut. Filming began in 1988 and the documentary reflects the friendship and bond that Weide and Vonnegut have formed over the decades.

“I’ve always filmed with him over the years,” Weide explains in the trailer. Vonnegut died on April 11, 2007.

Kurt Vonnegut: Taken off in time delves into the author’s education and creative production, spanning his childhood in Indianapolis, his experience as a prisoner of war during WWII, his marriage, family and divorce, his early careers as a publicist for General Electric and car salesman, and his long years as a struggling writer, leading to eventual fame in 1969 after the publication of his anti-war novel Flash Slaughterhouse-Five (which would later be adapted in the 1972 George Roy Hill film).

The documentary follows Weide’s odyssey as he examines the impact of Vonnegut’s legacy on his own life, extending far beyond the printed page.

Kurt Vonnegut: Take off in time was announced today as part of the Doc NYC lineup. IFC is releasing the documentary in theaters and on VOD on November 19.

Weide produced and wrote Kurt Vonnegut: Taken off in time and he co-directed with Don Argott.

Weide was nominated for an Oscar for Feature Documentary in 1999 for Lenny Bruce: Swear to tell the truth. He would go on to win a Primetime Emmy for this documentary in non-fiction programming, picture editing, as well as two other Emmy Awards for the making of a comedy series (Calm your enthusiasm) and special information special (WC fields: straight). He is the EP of HBO’s award-winning comedy series Calm your enthusiasm and directed 29 episodes over the show’s 10 seasons.

HE COULD have been the defining line of it all, the one that articulated how football can be boiled down to one stroke. With players ahead of him and a high-stakes affair on hold, the main point of emphasis was remarkably simple: “What you’ve learned is how hard it is to put pressure on the opposition to submits. “

That line might look like the one cameras showed Damien Hardwick giving his Richmond players ahead of the 2019 Grand Final, the one now known as the “1-wood” speech. It’s easy to imagine Hardwick or Simon Goodwin delivering the same message to Brisbane last year or Perth this year as well, given the immense strength of their respective teams in the fashionable discipline of pressure.

And yet this lineage does not belong to them. In fact, it doesn’t belong to anyone lately.

The deliveryman of this message? Leigh Matthews, to his formidable Brisbane Lions two decades ago.

Footy as a whole may still evolve at an ever increasing speed, but the greatest teams in the game all have the ability to be significantly ahead of this evolutionary curve. And in the aftermath of another prime ministerial post, this time by Melbourne, won thanks to pressure and a push in the second half, Matthews’ Lions look in retrospect perhaps the finest example of all.

Explored in great detail in the exclusive feature documentary ‘Actions To Live By’ on AFL On Demand, the Brisbane Dynasty building at the turn of the century has become incredibly modern in every way it can be.

Michael Voss of Brisbane presents the 2003 Premiership Cup to fans.

As Hardwick would 20 years later, we see Matthews in the film giving a pre-game speech that includes this key message about pressure. It was 1999 when the master coach was building a whole new identity at the heart of his team, a trait-centric identity that now defines successful teams more than any other.

“If we didn’t have the ball,” says Jason Akermanis, one of the documentary’s main subjects, “you attack and throw yourself. If you have to bury them, you bury them. No mercy.”

Akermanis, of course, was a Dynasty Brownlow medalist and one of its biggest stars, a quarterback perhaps of the best midfielder of all time, complemented by Michael Voss, Simon Black and Nigel Lappin. And yet, listening to Aker and Matthews in ‘Actions To Live By’ is to understand that they didn’t perceive talent as their identity – rather it was the way they hunted in groups.

Jason Akermanis speaks to AFL Media for ‘Actions To Live By’

Is this ringtone familiar to what you see and hear now?

Modernity didn’t stop there either.

In recent times, we’ve seen how successful teams embrace human differences and contrasting personalities. In Richmond, the club shied away from stereotypical ideas of alphas and masculinity and instead opened up to vulnerability. Even more recently, we’ve seen Melbourne similarly galvanize around Max Gawn’s unconventional frontman. As always, Matthews was there before them.

Drawing on the personality profiling of Dr. Phil Jauncey, Matthews has been at the forefront of moving away from traditional coaching techniques and embracing new methods. “The psychologist was really important,” said Jonathan Brown, another of the superstars of the day and a key figure in the film. “It has helped Leigh a lot, to understand the players and obviously it has helped us to understand ourselves and our teammates.”

Jonathan Brown speaks to AFL Media for ‘Actions To Live By’

Jauncey’s work with the Lions and Matthews centered around a Venn diagram made up of four categories that increased the coach’s ability to connect with his players.

“Much of his work was based on a personality profiling system,” says Matthews de Jauncey. “What it did was give a good indication of what Phil was talking about as your tendencies under pressure. I found it to be an exceptional management tool. There were four basic personality categories: the Mozzie. , the Enforcer, the Thinker and the Feeler. “

Considering the fierce and towering nature on this side of Brisbane, the group was understandably heavy on Enforcers, as shown in the film. “You have 16 of your starting 21 in the Enforcer style,” Akermanis explains. “At each session, someone hit Leppa [Justin Leppitsch], Leppa would hit someone else. “

But Jauncey’s profiling gave Matthews the ability to tap into the squad and players who were in different segments of the Venn diagram.

“Browny had a lot of Mozzie in him,” Matthews says. “If you wanted Browny to do something, just tell him five minutes before the game, just let him play on his instincts. [Whereas Nigel Lappin] was very in Feeler mode. You could never criticize Nigel for always criticizing himself, more than anyone outside. Marcus Ashcroft had a lot of Thinker in his personality, so if I wanted Marcus to do something in a game or play against someone, give him a few days’ notice and he will work out his battle plan. “

And yet Matthews was in control even more.

It’s strange to watch the arc of Brisbane’s first Grand Final triumph in 2001 and not see the same story Melbourne would follow 20 years later. Broken down at halftime thanks to imprecise kicks (Lions entered the main break at 5.10; Demons at 5.9), Matthews Chargers hammered their opponents in a brutal third term that was the result of superior conditioning techniques that pushed the limits of fitness. and recovery.

‘ACTIONS TO LIVE BY’ is now streaming DYNASTIES ON AFL ON REQUEST

“Don Lehmann was the Qantas pilot who would fly our planes,” says Matthews, detailing the efforts he and his club have gone through. “Don would fly the plane to the safest and lowest altitude. The idea was that if you could actually fly at 17,000 or 18,000 feet, the pressure would be different in the cabin and that could help your recovery and your dehydration problems. “

They may have flown their planes low, but with a completely modern, holistic approach, Lions have flown as high as anyone.

‘Dynasties’ is a new original series exclusive to AFL on demand which will reveal the incredible inside stories of how the game’s greatest teams have built their Premiership successes and supported them year after year. The series begins with the Brisbane Lions on the 20the anniversary of their first term and will return in 2022 with another installment.
