The Apprentice’s Thomas Skinner says he was forced to sell expensive watch to pay staff

Apprentice favorite Thomas Skinner has revealed he was forced to sell his expensive watch in order to pay staff.

He shot to fame on the BBC series in 2019 and went on to build a successful business and appeared on a range of TV shows including 8 out of 10 Cats and Celebrity Masterchef.

The star admitted he had to sell pride goods in order to keep his business going during the coronavirus lockdown.

Speaking to Daily Star, he said: ‘When I did well after the show, I bought things I didn’t need.

“I was a new business owner and had no capital behind me. I hadn’t put the foundation in place to go six months without trading.

“So like a donut I bought myself an expensive watch and I had staff at this point and I didn’t want to lose my staff so I sold the watch to pay everybody’s salary to enable us to get through the lockdown.”

Thomas then went on to tell the dirt of some of the show’s secrets that fans don’t see.

He continued: What people don’t realize is that the show is only an hour long but it’s three days of shooting.

“You get up at 4 a.m. and when that phone rings, you only have twenty minutes to get ready.”

Thomas then revealed that contestants get a hint the night before from producers, giving them more time to prepare off-camera.

“The secret is what happens the night before the production crew leaves” Well, the phone is going to ring at 4:30, so you have to be downstairs at 4:50.

“So people would set their alarms 15-20 minutes before the phone call and start preparing ahead of time.”

The London-born star and former market trader also revealed a shocking insight into the audition process, where hopefuls are asked to line up based on who is more attractive.

“Before you go on the show, you go through the interview stages and they told us to line up from ugliest to prettiest.

“And you don’t know who these people are and you have people arguing about who is prettier.

“It’s a carnage but there were people arguing saying I’m much better looking.”

Father-of-one Thomas also recalled breaking his NDA before the show and revealed his close friends told his local pub punters he was in jail for his sudden absence from the show.

“You get a phone call for five minutes a week.

“Other than that, there’s no phone and no news. I’ve told a few friends about it.

“My mate told everyone in the pub that I got bitten and was going to jail.

“When I walked into the pub people were giving me money and I said no, I was in The Apprentice so when it came on TV they were stunned.”
